Bergen County, NJ
HomeGrown Roots & Repairs installs flooring across Bergen County, NJ — LVP and LVT, engineered and solid hardwood, laminate, and tile. We handle subfloor prep, transitions, baseboards, and the trim work that makes a new floor look right after install.
LVP through General Floors in Hackensack is our most-requested install across Paramus, Bergenfield, and Hackensack basements and kitchens. Hardwood refinishing is more common in older Ridgewood and Teaneck homes where original plank floors are worth preserving. Flooring usually pairs with basement finishing or a kitchen remodel.
Click-lock floating floors over slab or wood subfloor. Water-resistant, kid-and-pet friendly, fast install. Standard for kitchens, basements, and high-traffic areas.
Pre-finished and site-finished. Nail-down or glue-down depending on subfloor. White oak, red oak, walnut, maple.
Click-lock floating laminate over wood or concrete. Budget-friendly with realistic wood-look finishes.
Porcelain, ceramic, large-format, stone. Proper underlayment and waterproofing where the room requires it.
Replace water-damaged subfloor, level uneven spots with self-leveler, sister floor joists where they sag.
Reducers, T-molds, stair nosings, quarter-round, shoe molding. The detail that makes a floor look properly finished.
Older Bergen County homes (Ridgewood, Teaneck, Englewood Colonials and Victorians) have plank subfloors — usually 1x6 or 1x8 pine. Newer homes (Paramus, Bergenfield, post-1960 construction) have plywood or OSB. Plank subfloors usually need OSB or plywood overlay before LVP because LVP click-lock requires a flat substrate. We inspect and flag any subfloor work in the estimate.
Solid and engineered hardwood require 48–72 hours of acclimation in the install space before laying — Bergen County humidity changes seasonally, and skipping acclimation causes gaps in winter or buckling in summer. We deliver hardwood, stack it in the space, and let it acclimate before scheduling the install.
Pre-1970 Bergen County homes often have original stair treads worth refinishing rather than replacing. We do both — refinish saves cost and preserves character but takes more time (sanding, staining, polyurethane coats with cure between each). Replacement is faster but loses the original feel.

LVP is the most popular pick — water-resistant, comfortable underfoot, and tough enough for kids and pets. Tile is timeless but cold; engineered hardwood works if the kitchen is not prone to spills.
Per-square-foot installation pricing assumes a flat, stable subfloor. If we find moisture damage, uneven plywood, or sag during demo, those repairs are quoted separately before install begins. Material selection drives the biggest cost variation — the same LVP brand can range from $3.50–$8/sq ft depending on collection. We give you sample range options at the estimate and let you choose your tier.
